Why does this website exist? What's up with all those stickers that say, "Flint, a city of culture" and, "Flint, a city of pride" and so forth?

Well, let us ask you a question of our own, gentle reader. Have you ever read Rhonda Byrne's The Secret? How about The Power of Positive Thinking? We read those books, and we think there's something to be said for, well, thinking positively. Our thoughts and attitudes can shape our lives and the world around us--as Henry Ford himself once said, "Whether you think you can or think you can't, you're right." And if that's the case, shouldn't we try to focus on the good things in life? Shouldn't we use this incredible gift to empower ourselves, our friends, our community?

Now think about Flint. We've had kind of a bad reputation ever since General Motors plants started closing up and putting people out of work. Unemployment skyrocketed, crime increased, city residents started moving out to the suburbs, and morale was low. Michael Moore captured our story on film and pretty soon the entire nation--nay, the world--was throwing poor Flint a pity party. We started dwelling on racism, corruption, poverty and crime, and by constantly thinking about those negative things, we made Flint a negative place.

But those days are over. We have begun to move on. We have begun to look forward, to create a new city out of the ashes of the old. Flint's role as a manufacturing town is over. Flint is no longer the center of the automotive industry. What that means is that we are free to create a brand new Flint! We can do whatever we want here! And much of that change is caused by simply thinking about good things, talking about good things, and knowing that it really is all possible.

So with that said...

The purpose of this guerrilla movement is to help shift the perception of Flint from Pothole City to City-That-Is-Awesome-And-By-Awesome-We-Mean-Totally-Sweet. We want you to wake up and start seeing all the great things this beautiful place has to offer. We want you to notice the parks, the art galleries, the coffee shops. We want you to start using the resources you've had at your disposal all this time but never noticed because you were so convinced that Flint had nothing. We want you to start appreciating Flint. Because the more you appreciate it, the better it's going to get.
